Understanding Democratic Stress

This article opens a Special Issue on Democratic Stress. Against the background of recent debates ‘democratic crisis’, we argue that concept stress’ provides useful way to understand diversity pressures representative democracy faces in contemporary context, as well valuable ‘organising perspective’ for developing more nuanced analyses. We then map out main contributions articles included this special issue, and survey which they further agenda, conceptually empirically.
